Tracks are gizmos that originated in Super Mario Bros. 3. While placed connecting in a cardinal direction, they have 4 unnamed alternate forms. When placed in a diagonal direction, they have 2 unnamed alternate forms. As such, Tracks have a total of 6 alternate forms.

Behavior [ ]

Track pieces are placed between two squares, either 2 blocks apart horizontally or vertically or at the opposite corners of a 3x3 square in a diagonal track. Diagonal Tracks have three alternate forms: straight diagonals and two directions of circular curves. They can be switched between in the alternate forms menu.

Course Parts on Tracks can pass through the ground, though certain Items, Enemies and Gizmos still can interact with them. Tracks normally have endpoints that cause objects on the Track running into them to turn around, but the endpoints can be removed by tapping them. An object that goes off the Track will move through the air, obeying gravity until landing on another segment.

Objects on Tracks often have different properties when placed on them. Wings on an object will allow them to move twice the speed on the track. Other properties are also affected, too. For example, a Flimsy Lift on a Track will only move when the player makes contact with it, rather than falling when a player makes contact with it. Objects on tracks cannot be stacked, have a Parachute attached, or hold a Key.

Objects on Tracks have a direction that can be changed in the editor that determines which way they move along the track. When landing onto another track after falling off, they will try to keep this direction. Tracks and objects on tracks have their own entity layer and can overlap everything except other tracks. Certain objects can be moved off the track into the normal object layer. Enemies that are affected but not immediately killed by stomping them will go into the normal object layer when stomped.

They have alternate forms where hitting an ON/OFF Switch will change which way items going onto the Track will go. The ON/OFF Switch activated segments of this are diagonal, and the other segment is horizontal or vertical.

Metagame [ ]

It is worth noting that aside from their intended use, tracks are often used to make paths or draw symbols. Sometimes creators will use them to draw a line from a key to an enemy, indicating that the enemy has a key. In levels involving Advanced Techniques or other precise maneuvers, a box shape of track pieces is used to mark either a Hidden Block, where a falling platform or enemy should be jumped off, or to do something that is a not-much-used mechanic of that level. A box with one track missing usually indicates that the player should throw an object in the direction of the missing track. A "Z"-shaped track usually indicates pressing the shoulder buttons (Input L.png/Input R.png/Input ZL.png/Input ZR.png/Input SL.png/Input SR.png).
